I'm not sure I've got this "Adobe Reader" you say I need. What do I do?
You may already have the Reader installed on your computer without knowing it. It comes bundled in with many software applications and games as a means to read the instruction manual.
| In Windows go to "Start" then "(All) Programs" and look for an entry for Adobe Software or look for the Adobe Reader icon listed on its own. If you find the icon that means you have the Reader already installed. |

Double click on the Reader icon to start the Reader. Now go to Edit, Preferences, Internet. If you want to view the Book's PDF files from within your browser then tick the box marked "display PDF in browser". If you prefer to view your PDF files outside of your browser make sure that box is NOT ticked.
If you cannot find the Adobe Reader anywhere on your system then it's easy to download the FREE software from the Adobe website. Just click on the button below :
and follow the instructions.
How can I test whether I can display and print The Curry House Cookery Book properly?
You can test your system is compatible by calling up our PDF Test File, saving it and then printing it. The Cookery Book uses the same PDF format as the PDF Test File so if you can view, save and print one you will be able to view, save and print the other.
To print the Test File (or any of the recipes) properly you must print it by CLICKING THE "print" ICON ON THE TOOLBAR OF THE ADOBE ACROBAT READER and not from your browser's toolbar.
Your License Agreement says I need the latest version of the Adobe Reader which is version 7. I have version 5, which Adobe used to call the Acrobat Reader, installed on my computer. Won't that work?
Yes it will. What our License Agreement is really referring to is that some much older versions may not load our PDF files properly but we have tested v.7 through to v.5 and they work perfectly.
I need further help with the Adobe Reader.
I'm afraid that support for the Adobe Reader does not come as part of your license. All customers should ensure that the latest version of the Reader works on their system BEFORE they register (see above test).
The best help on troubleshooting problems with the Reader comes from the Adobe support pages.

What is a "PDF" file?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format which is a format invented and distributed by Adobe Systems Inc.. PDF has been adopted as a standard by governments and enterprises worldwide and is widely used for creating "e-books". It is a reliable format for creating and reading electronic documents which preserves document integrity so files can be viewed and printed on a variety of platforms. The Adobe Reader is available FREE from Adobe and is all you need to read The Curry House Cookery Book.
Will the recipes take longer to download than normal Web pages?
Yes. The recipes are in PDF format which is bulkier than ordinary html (Web) pages so each file will take longer to load than an equivalent html page. The reason they are bulkier is that they have all their formatting embedded in the file (rather than hoping it is available on your computer). What that means is that the files will display and print exactly as they were originally formatted rather than how your computer wants to show them by default. It doesn't matter what type of computer, browser or operating system (Windows, Mac etc) you are using; the files will all come out the same so no registered user is disadvantaged.
